Is this odd??? 14 years 3 months ago #9647

Guys, I was sat in my 'F' last night having just finished work, waiting for the screen to defrost, when I suddenly realised....

The guages in the binnacle... ie speedo rev counter etc. are white

The clock and Oil Temp are black!

Is this correct for a 2000 Mk 2 ??

I am aware, from finding odd little remanants of masking tape around my car has a ' bit of history' both wings appear to have been replaced, and I'm just wondering what else has been going on in its past!

I do wonder about the interior too mainly, black with red/black all leather seats with matching steering wheel.

Oh and I now realise the mirrors are a slightly different red to the rest of the car.

So if anyone is breaking a solar red 'F' with decent working mirrors give me a shout!

Is there a definitive list of specs anywhere ?

Not on here Adam no. :-(

Just checked the fleabay and most Mk2 consoles that come with guages are white/silver.

I was thinking about getting a new centere console anyway as the previous owner put a highly desirable... not... fake carbon fibre cover over it.

oh lovely lol, the TF ones are a funny silvery colour but oddly the instrument pack is light with a led bulb from above and the oil temp/12hr clock are back lit through a filter like the ZR/ZS clocks...

but thats MG-R for you!

best be might be to get yourself along to some local meets :)

I have a 2000 W reg MGF and the dials and gauges are silver.

The clock and oil temp are back lit and look black at night when the lights are on.

I can get you a piccy later if you want to compare - let me know.

They do look black in the dark unlike the speedo!

Are they black in the day time?

Just shows you what working lates can do for you....

Sorry guys, the guages are silver in the daytime, but only just had a chance to check them, Roll on British Summer Time!

I still don't understand why they were made like that though!

Classic MGR I guess

It's the speedo and rev counter that are a botch-up.
Does anybody know why they aren't back-lit like the gauges, rather than that silly light box stuck on the front?:dunno:

I guess it was all down to cash at the end of the day..

I feel a bit stoopid for starting the thread now.. but then I have a 'special birthday' next month, so I am officially old and confused..... not to mention grumpy!
