Yes, all of the above could... But another possibility if it's worse at tick over than at speed is water pump.

Bleeding correctly is first step.
Visual inspection of flow back into tank from the jiggle valve next
If problem confinues, sniff test of the coolant (a simple chemical analysis for combustion gases present)

I've always thought it would be a good idea if a colour changing additive was put into antifreeze to show presence of exhaust gas... I wonder why no one does?

Hi,
Have you eliminated a radiator issue.
How hot do the inlet/outlet hoses feel on the radiator?

Mechanic has said radiator is fine.
Thanks

It certainly sounds like air on the system. After a burst pipe I’ve just refilled and bled my Tf. To do this I raised the rear of the car first this ad this creates more fall for the water to travel.

All 3 points must be done with the interior heater turned up full.

Hope you get to the bottom of the problem soon.

After searching for ages cleaning the inlet manifold jiggle valve solved this issue for me.

Don't forget to renew the gasket also when removing the manifold!

4life waterless coolant goes from red to yellow when in contact with exhaust gasses, I use 4life haven't had that but it's good to know also because it doesn't boil or at least not at lower temp (water) then reduced pressure saves hoses.

Ahhh, I hadn't realised 4life changes colour. Well there you go, that might well be my next change.

Yes, that's another thing that would account for problem being worse at idle than at speed... If there was a lot of emulsion sludge from previous gasket failure, you may well find flow is somewhat restricted.

I've resorted to flushing through with a high pressure hose on one end and a wet n dry vacuum on the other to move slugde out of engine and pipework

Cooling when moving but overheating at tickover suggests to me that the coolant isn't circulating properly so a partially blocked or faulty radiator, a partially blocked hose or an airlock.

What does the OBD data say about coolant temp?

Hi all,so getting sorted,it was a leaking hose but it’s leaked over & corroded the water union with 2 sensors on it.Does anybody have a part number or know where I could get one.Gates don’t do it,and apparently there’s no original MG Rover ones.
Many thanks for all the help

Al,
Get on Rimmer bros web site.
You will be able to see the schematic drawings of the coolant pipes, and identify the part number, along with the price.
