No manufacture date on that tyre is strange, that has been common for sometime so I would question how old it is.

Cheers David
Great minds think alike, I have an MGF chum who lives not too far away. I was thinking about asking him to do a swap to see how things run. He's got the older Proxes on his rear.

My TF handled beautifully on the Pirelli's at the rear, very stable at speed but a bitch in the wet. Front suspension is healthy, sailed through the MoT without advisories. Car has 33000 on the clock and is used at weekends only.

I will give an update after the tyre swop and if I get a response from Toyo UK.

The story continues. The rear offside Proxe is a 2013 tyre, the old compound. New compound came into play I believe in September 2014. The near side I'm not sure about as I previously mentioned, there is no date on it. So I'm assuming the nearside could be a new compound and that might be the answer to the problem, well just have to wait and see. Who would have thought tyres could be so interesting? I will inspect both tyres closely for any revealing features.

Cheers guys
Rick

Okay, closer inspection shows no apparent differences apart from one tyre without manufacturing date. Both are CX coded and that means manufactured at the Japanese plant. Could be both tyres are of the older compound. Oh dear, this is taking over my life. Now where did I put my cross-stitch.

By law every tyre has to have a date stamp.

Is it not on the inner tyre wall.

Ok guys, heres the latest on the rubber situation.

Both my rear Toyo's purchased via Black Circles two weeks ago are old compound tyres.
I checked the inner wall on the nearside rear and discovered the manufacturing date was a year 13.

I will be swopping my front Continentals tomorrow night with a mate who happens to have the old compond on the front of his MGF, just to see
if it soughts the problem. Personally I think it will.

Now then, what happens next? Looks like I will have to purchase new front Toyo's, but then there is a possibillity that I could get supplied with new compound tyres. Black Circle cannot guarantee the older tyre. I spoke to Toyo about my dilema. They told me if I'm supplied with the new compound tyres for the front, they will exhange my rear old compounds free of charge to avoid any handling issues.

So thats the story so far. More to follow after the swop test. Cheers for now. Rick

My f 1.6 02. wanders all over the place like a Whitechapel drunk at 2am when I go over about 65, I have been assured that this is not entirely abnormal and you may wish to increase the load in the front bay just to 'hold her down'. Maybe some extra load across the front axle would improve handling.

Including a front splitter into the equation may also provide more downforce at speed, pull your seat right forward and wear heavy boots. ;-)

I doesn't provide down force, it reduces lift,
