Are piggyback fuses a good idea in this case? 10 years 10 months ago #120162

A question for all you electricians out there :o)

I am looking at getting a piggyback fuse to power a hidden sub (pulls 7.5 amps, but has a 10 amp fuse). From my understanding my TF fuse box has a 30 amp supply to it (I am sure I didn't just dream this, but maybe I am wrong about this, seems like a lot less than the fuses would suggest). Fuse 15, the one for the radio and oil temp gauge has a 10 amp fuse. Whilst technically I put a piggyback fuse with an additional 10 amp fuse for the sub and run the two in parallel, would this be unadvisable (I wouldn't want to set the car on fire for example :slapme: )?

Anything other than a small load I would advise running straight from the battery with an appropriately rated fuse as close as you can to the supply.

Adding it to any other circuit could cause unseen problems such as overloading of that circuit.

Beat me to the draw Clive.

If you want the feed ignition controlled then you can install a relay that's live when ignition is at aux and ignition position.
It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

Thanks CJJ I will go with that! I was trying to convince myself it would be ok and less messy :bang:
