Can anyone help here?

I am looking for a simple solution as I don't understand car electrics particularly well.

I want a switched power supply for a remote boot lock (15amp) so this excludes cigarette lighter as this is permanent live and I do not want to use the radio switched live as this is powering enough bits and don't want to load it with more.

Please bear in mind if answering, I need it simple, so assume I know nothing, particularly terminology...... a relay to me is an Olympic event and taking power from the battery is 'running it flat' :(

I know where he fuse box is though and that it is different to the F...........

The 3 terminals in the center next to the left of the black fues puller marked 3, 4 & 5 are switched live. ;)

Thanks for that but mines a TF and doesn't have that (F Mk2) type of fuse box. If only it was that easy eh!

You coulx fit an olympic event and connect it to run your battery flat. ;)

I used the central pins, but it doesn't work when the lights are ON. I was unable to identify the pins connection in the electrical drawings. But I used a servomotor from door latch instead of a coil
Are you sure you need 15 amps supply ?

Invalid or non-existent item ID.Invalid or non-existent item ID.OK quick description of a relay (to continue the thread elsewhere)

It's a switch operated by another circuit.

The idea is you put the inlet (terminal 85) of switching side of the relay (an electromagnet) into the switched live you currently use (the radio circuit if I recall correctly), and the outlet (terminal 86) to earth. You now have created your switch.

Then a wire one side from the battery + terminal, to the relay (terminal 30), the other side of the relay (terminal 87) out to a fuse board (something like this)

Then to your accessory...

A relay looks like this

Thanks for that, I think that even I have now got a grasp of most of what's needed. I am however, still unsure of how/where to pick up the battery + to terminal 30, other than the actual battery terminal itself (said I haven't a clue on electrics)?

Invalid or non-existent item ID.Battery terminal is perfect :yesnod: Use an ring connector like this one.

That should allow you to pass the bolt of the battery clamp through the ring ensuring a good tight connection.

One quick question....... does there need to be a fuse between the + battery and the relay? If so, what amp should this be? Thanks, Macca

Yes.

The rating of the fuse should reflect the rest of the installation.

For example, if the cable you use up to the fuse box is 20A then you need a 20A fuse.

If the relay you use is only 10A then you need a 10A.

Rate the main fuse to the weakest component up to the new fuse box. Items after the aux fuse box would have their own fuse rated to that circuit.

Also place the main fuse as close to the battery as possible.

That's odd, mine is a TF and I have that same fuse box, or something remarkably similar.

Did the internal TF fuse area change during it's lifetime?
