Soft top zipper problem 11 years 7 months ago #68817

Hi everybody
I am a newbie to this, and unfortunately have fallen at the first hurdle. I have just acquired an unloved 1997 MGF here in South Australia. In order to clean it, I unzipped the plastic rear screen and now the zip splits open behind me as I try to close it. As the zip had been very tight, I followed a friend's advice and applied RP7 to the teeth. Maybe this was a mistake? I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Secondly I cannot help, but I m sure someone will be able too :yesnod:

Post some pictures of your car, don't worry about the state, as we get to see all your improvements as, and when you do them, which is always interesting to watch :broon:

Un do the catches at the front screen which reduces the strain on the rear screen making the zip easier to do up.

The only time I undo the zip is when the hardtop goes on for winter, I just make sure it folds nicely as I open the hood.

Thank you for advice offered. I found a solution by salvaging the slider section from an old back pack which had the same size zipper. I was able to attach that slider to both parts of the existing zipper and it works perfectly. :woohoo:
