Hi all

Ive got a decat off ebay and will be fitting this in the next few weeks or so, but would this make much difference to the standard exhaust sound also would i gain any more bhp ?

How come you hated it ? was it way too noisey or did you expect more ?

Fitting a DECAT really does the F/TF no favours.

I have tried it with two different exhausts and found the sound produced was not as good as with a CAT. On a loud exhaust it will make it louder, on a quiet exhaust you will not notice much of an increase in volume although it will probably sound harsher, and not in a good way.

The CAT of the F/TF is already a very free flowing. DECATs have been tested on rolling roads and the results showed no improvement or possibly a 1 bhp increase.

Also bear in mind that the you will need to refit the CAT to pass the MOT emissions test.

So all in all, fitting a DECAT is not going to do much for you except empty your pocket of hard earned cash, pollute the atmosphere and make you fail the MOT.

I'd loose 1hp for 10 decibels of louder vroom vroom . You will soon have a tf 114 lol

I have a decat on a Scorpion back box and the one thing I noticed was that I didn't need as many revs to keep the speed up. Almost as if the cat was contributing a little to engine breaking.

As for noise, its a bit more rumbley and I do notice a bit more noise when the pedal is on the floor but because its a Scorpion even with the decat it can be civil around town.

I still have my cat for MOT time so once the car is back on the road I'll go for a rolling road session so we can definitively put up the dyno graphs with and without.

Look forward to the results. I have seen a few in the past on MGF's which showed no power gain, in one case a 1bhp increase and in another a 1bhp drop.

The change in volume really does depend on the exhaust you have to start with. A loud exhauster will get louder and a quiet exhaust will get louder .

Still you pays your money, you makes your choice

You're a hard man to put off. In that case, don't forget to put the roof down when you do it.. It'll be even louder that way.
