Re: leds for inside car? 11 years 9 months ago #60465

I used 820 ohms on mine, blue led for the switch light and red for the tell tale, I bought a selection pack and played about with resistors and bulb sizes to get the brightness I wanted. All in all less than a tenner from maplin and I have a bag full of each left over.

click here for a resistor calculator/guide thingy I used.

Top tip, I found it easier to pass one end through a hole then solder it to the back, if you do that slip some heat shrink over the leg before you solder it on as its pretty tight against other connections and any free play could short it, I blew a couple of fuses before I realised what was happening.

for a resister I use a variable in series starting with maximum resistance and when the bulb/LED looks right
disconnect all I then measure the variable resistor with multimeter and there is what I need in ohms,
after all one does not want a lighthouse indoor after dark, or do you?
I haven’t lost my marbles they are in a bag somewhere

Re: leds for inside car? 11 years 9 months ago #61249

did my window switches tonight... omg what a pain in the asre on the mark 1 mgf there is very little space to solder resistors in place that enables you to keep the led low enough not to get in the way of the rocker switch as i found out the first attempt

anyway quick pic

It's bluer than a John Holmes movie! Do people pull over to let you go by, thinking you're the old bill?

This reminds me very much of RayB's car. Bluer than a blue thing. Anyway, good job on the 'leds'. I'll tweak your pics into the guides where appropriate. If you don't mind.. too much. :)
