Jacking Point Mini-Mod 11 years 10 months ago #51715

OK, I'm not sure if this really rates being called a "Mod" but technically it is a modification from original
so there ya go!
Everytime I go to jack up my car I have to peer around under the car and squint in the shadows to find the jacking point,
so I thought, "Why not paint them yellow?"
So I Did. :yesnod:

It might not be a mod but it's a very handy tip Rich. So it's been moved to the 'jacking thread'. I'll leave the rest to your imagination. :)

I would imagine that it could be a real benefit. Great idea. Cheers. :broon:

Painting the jack points yellow is a good idea as would be painting the tip of the oil dip stick as black oil on a black stick is hard to see more so in winter

Are these central jacking points on the 'F' body or subframe mounted? It's difficult to see in the photos.

I'm wondering if they could be added to the TF...it would make life working on the TF a lot easier. :yesnod:

The central jacking points are on the subframe. Not sure if they could be added to the TF, but if the main structure of the subframe is the same as the F it should be strong enough to support the load. I never use the sill jacking points on my car as a previous owner bent them. No doubt due to incorrect jacking!

Helmsbyman...If your oil's black it's time to change it!
(Paint wouldn't last on the dipstick. Possibly a brushed chrome plated finish?)

I pumped the suspension up a bit too much. ;)

It was great off road though.

Hi there all, I know this is an old wornout thread now, but the central jacking point is missing off my MK2 MGF .
There is a hole where it should be, has any one an idea how a suitable jacking point could be re inserted?
I assume the front part of the subframe is up there somewhere

thanks
Mike

Hi Mike (g4wam), first off I cannot see where the thread is worn out, it looks fine to me :P

OK with regard to the jacking points on the MK2. I have just nipped out and photographed mine

Here it is from under the front of the car looking up, it should be just behind the bumper

It is also visible through the lower front grill

Thank you for resurrecting this thread, I have never read it before and never new that these small bits of metal were in fact jacking points

Having known nothing about them I cannot realy answer your question, I would however imagine it is possible to have one welded on if it is indeed missing from yours, but hopefully someone will be along very shortly to give a definitive answer.

Funny this should come up now as we have just had a question in the MG T-Bar Quiz about jacking up an old MG, an MG Y-Type. Take a look at the fancy system that old thing had, click here to view

well first of all thansk for taking the time to take photos.
The central jacking ponits are a great alternative to using the sills and the rear one on my car is the one I use .
But i should have on on the front , they are loop shaped -your photo does not appear to show a loop .
thanks

Here is a pic of the Jacking point that PQD showed above, but painted yellow.
It is basically a wire loop with a piece of steel plate welded to it.
I don't know if they were deleted toward the end of MK2 production.
That would be a pity as they are indespensible! :broon:

Thanks for the photo Rich and I like the idea of painting them yellow, could come in very handy if your at a garage, you can just say raise the car using the yellow jacking point :broon:
