Land Rover is exploring a convertible version of the Evoque, and will make a production decision ‘within six months’.

Design director Gerry McGovern (yes the same man that designed the MGF. Did you know that the MG TF was judged the 'World's Most Beautiful Cabriolet' at the L'Automobile più Bella del Mondo awards ceremony in Milan in 2003.) unveiled the ‘fresh out of the workshop’ concept at Pinewood Studios on February 24 2012 the car will make its public debut at the Geneva show in March. The Evoque convertible concept has a powered soft-top roof with a glass rear screen, which stows in a recess below the rear deck. The boot is re-engineered to fold down like the original Mini’s tailgate, while pop up rollover protection would be packaged behind the rear seats.

Re: Cool Wall - Gerry McGovern Evoke Convertible 12 years 1 month ago #45064

I wanted to not like it but if it actually looks like that when built I look forward to seeing it on the road.

Although, 4x4's are usually owned to ship the kids to and fro. Why would you want the roof down for that?
You just expose the world to a brood of screaming kids in the back seat.

Oh and I wonder what it looks like with the roof up, could spoil the looks if its not been properly thought through.

Having difficulty getting a photo of it with the hood up, here is another from the Geneva show

Land Rover brand director John Edwards says the company will ‘make the call on production within months’. The journey to showrooms would take 24-30 months and the sale price is estimated to be £31,000.

Brilliant concept. Ever driven a landrover with the canvas roof off Luckymarine? Nothing like it. I really like the idea of a 4x4 taller convertible. Especially one with this pedigree.

Found a couple of photos with the top up and the Evoque convertible looks just as good, if not better than its tin top older brother

i like the looks of the Convertevoque better than the fixed roof version. (Which I really don't care for)

I can't help but think it looks like an even larger version of the Mini Countryman. (Which I think is downright grotesque!)

Yes it does Rich. :) It looks ok with the top up as well. It's definately a 'head turner'.

Imagine this kind of fun with the roof down. Would you say 'No'?

If it's an Evoque with the roof down....I would say NO!!!

If it's my D90 V8 with the roof down I would say YES!!!(and ask the Evoque owner to try and keep up with me off road!!)

Does your roof come off / down in the D90 then? The evoque, especially if it gets to the convertible stage, would never keep up with a 'true off roader' of course. :)

But I do admire that it has at least some of the ability if really needed. Probably only ever in the snow really. But it's there. I love that it has a soft top and I'm looking forward to see how that operates. What do you think? Manual or electronic?

A real split decision on this one I see! Voting all over the place...
