The ones that got away... 2 years 2 months ago #198325

Hey all,

Just for sh!ts and giggles...

What cars have you owned over the years that you wish you still had? (for the purpose of this discussion everything counts)

I'll start off with my ex-Army 1987 Landrover 90 - bought standard and later transplanted a Discovery 300Tdi engine into her in place of the 2.5 N/A...

I couldn't however ignore my 1997 3.8L (Essex V6) Mustang which was my first car when I lived in the Middle East!

Over to the floor... Pics appreciated!

The one I probably miss the most is my mk1 Alfa Romeo 33 Green Cloverleaf 1.5.
Sorry, no digital photos.

but the one I have liked the most is probably my current one, also an Alfa Romeo.

Home to black Alfa Romeo 159 3.2 V6 Q4 ,green MGF VVC and red MG Maestro T16.

MG - the friendly marque.

The list of cars I've had is way to long to go through, and a hell of a lot of them I miss for some reason or another.
But I've had several Alfa's and Landrovers and miss them all.
The Alfas included a 73 Alfa 2000 GTV 105 series (a magnificent driver's car) a 66 Guila Ti, I also had a 79 Sud Sprint, and 3 v6 Alfa 90s.
The Landies ( Series 2s & 3s) were all heavily modified with either The 4.4 litre Leyland Alloy V8 (an oddity only found in Oz & NZ) or Ford V8's like my current one that features a 351 (5.8 litre) Cleveland and C4 auto. The exception to the v8 rule was a Series 2 88" fitted with a Holden 189 (3.0 litre) straight 6.

I am actually on my 3rd AR159 3.2 V6 Q4 in Black with Lusso spec tan interior.

The first I bought from a dealer and it transpired it wasn't the best.
When I crashed it (other driver drove across me with no warning) I managed to find another identical car with a dead engine and got the garage to swap all the good stuff on to my car.

Then last November the engine failed when it dropped a bearing so I sold it on as a spares or repair and next day picked up another that had benefitted from a couple of enhancements. Powder coated wheels, red brake calipers, lip spoiler on the boot, fat exhausts and she seems to have been chipped. She is so similar to the previous one my wife thought it was the same car.

The AR V6 in the 159 uses the block from a Holden V6 although much of it has been improved by AR.

My Citroen CX. Simultaneously the best and the worst car in existence but utterly beguiling.

I have been lucky enough to have had many interesting cars over the years, from old school 911's to little Spitfires, many I wish I still had. There seems to be some Alfa fans here and I agree with you, I have had 33 1.7 Green Cloverleaf, 145 TS Cloverleaf, plus some 156's but the car I wish I had most was the Alfa Sud 1.5 TiX Cloverleaf. I hate to think how much petrol I used accelerating to hear the noise, and then lifting off to hear the noise! Handled like a go-cart and wonderfully balanced. My GOAT.
