I am looking for a recommendation for a Sat Nav app (Android) that is happy taking the scenic route rather than the fastest or more direct. Apart from my old TomTom, I have tried a couple - Waze and Google Maps. Both have their merits but insist on sending me via dual carriageways and other busy roads which I am trying to avoid. Google Maps allows you to insert waypoints using 'via' but still it keeps wanting to send me what it considers being a 'better' way. I have taken to working out my routes on an old fashion paper road atlas but have to keep stopping to refer to it. Is there an app which can be used in the same way?

Try "Here We Go".. Has the ability to exclude highways, toll roads, Ferries, Tunnels, unpaved roads, etc.
