MG 1300 - a proper MG... 11 years 8 months ago #67245

My car is due to be auctioned next weekend at BBC2 & Chris Evans' Car Fest North.

Thought it might be a fun way to end the relationship especially as it is in aid of Children in Need.

Phone bidding is availaible if there's any interest.

Though this shell design had a rotbox reputation back in the day I always found them a pleasant car, especially the many variants such as the MG and the Vanden Plas. Good luck with the sale. A nice looking old gal.
It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

Thanks, John. Not really any worse for rot than most other cars of the era although the inner wing trumpets and worse, the rear sub-frame mount to the heel board were notorious, but no more expensive or difficult to sort than an MGB or Midget. Many got scrapped on that basis and in addition many of the MGs and GTs with the twin carb 11-stud head were obviously raided by the Mini brigade. Vanden Plas are the most sought after, probably followed closely by MG and Wolseley/Riley. There's still quite an active community globally and like the MGF the suspension units are probably one of the few things getting increasingly difficult to source.

Anyway, my two-door is due back from the paint shop and that one is to concours standard (or should be for the price I have paid for the respray) so that's this Winter's project sorted!

My physics teacher had an absolutely mint bottle green Vanden Plas back in the late sixties when I was at school. Like a miniature limo!

First car I ever bought at auction was an Austin 1100. Drivers side carpet got wet in the rain and after lifting the carpet I found two holes rusted through, each about the size of a tennis ball. :omg:

Good luck with the auction, hope the car raise a good amount for charity.

Some nice cars in the auction, the E-Types look fantastic along with the TR4

It was either that or rust in the air vent in front of the windscreen that leaked water in!

I've always wanted a 2 door MK2 MG 1300, really neat cars.My brother had an MG1100, was great fun to drive - very predictable lift-off oversteer on gravel, great fun.
