Here are two of our 3 setters...Dexter and Spice...ever so naughty but....very occasionally comatose...and definitely not allowed anywhere near the LE...

Yup..got it in one...We only got Spice 4 weeks ago..rescued from Ireland..took her 11 hours to stop running the length of the garden and back using the sofa as a banking turn...before she slowed down a little...absolutely manic then...got her sorted now..she sleeps!

Interested so I have goggled setters. "Setters get their name from their distinctive stance; a sort of crouch or "set" upon finding their quarry. A setter silently searches for game by scent; hunting is done systematically and methodically" They would be great to watch.

They would be great to watch if only we could see them when they are hunting in the forest! ..they have great noses ..bit bloodhound like in the open...and fast runners...

We have always had setters..mainly English show setters but now Irish and English working dogs..great with kids...completely non aggressive...decent size and amusing as hell. Brilliant dogs for families too...

We have nearly always had the pointers. They never cease to amaze me when zigzagging in front till they "point" Its like they go into another mode when in the paddock. I think they are all very similar type of dogs.

We did consider having a pointer when Harry died but we were drawn back to Setters...they are very similar ... Pointers less hairy than Setters..which appeals although the working dogs are less of an issue in this regard..and Setters and Pointers are likely closely related if you believe their understood origins...

"The origin of the English Setter lies in England. It dates back to the 17th century. It is believed to be a result of crossbreeding between Spanish Pointer, Springer Spaniel and Water Spaniel. It was earlier called the Setting Spaniel. "
