OMG!!
What a useless, foolish so and so I have been over this......
So, I contacted Paul at Technozen and received a reply that had this added on at the very end of his message....

"....Was the small metal contact beside the battery moved across to the new case?"
Mmmmm.

Lesson for the future I suppose is when another stupid person asks a similar question the responses, as well as: is the battery OK? is it the right way round? is the case secured correctly? should include "did you do the fundamentally obvious thing and move across the small metal contact to the new case? !!!
