12 hours on it today..

Auto headlights now work..

Push button indicators (same as Atom/radical) now work

Main loom moved for security

Second fuel pump and filter mounted and wired

Tomorrow.. Auto wipers, steering wheel wiring and paint..

Hoping by next Sunday everything will be painted and bolted on.. Just body to flat and polish

I never set out in Nov 2011 to built this.. The CVT box was dead.. And planned to pull the subframe out and swap to manual.

Then decided I'd opt for 160 bhp instead of 120..

Then thought I'd change the brakes (never liked the 240mm set up)

Then thought I'd make a list of stuff I wasn't happy about.. And set about correcting them..

Not a huge fan of body kits or spoilers.. But wanted to make subtle changes to how it looks..

The result.. Nearly three years on is a car which is my own take on the modern F ..

Hopefully less rattly and squeaky.. Faster.. Faster to stop.. More comfortable.. Better road manners and some nice little 21st century touches..

Not everyone's cup of tea.. But then neither is coffee..

Whole day wiring yesterday

Steering wheel now wired.. What a job..

CREE spots wired up via relay and switch so I can have them on with main beam..

EPAS relay to buy and wire next

Sequential shift lights left to wire..

Still having issues wiring the wiper motor to the rain tracker.. I'm ok at wiring but struggling here..

Anyone know how the wiper motor switch works?

A nice coffee with a spot of spiced rum goes well, just how I like my cars.

Home to black Alfa Romeo 159 3.2 V6 Q4 ,green MGF VVC and red MG Maestro T16.

I'm afraid I didn't like how the hinges fitted as supplied.. Door up it 'wobbled' too much.. And doors didn't open vertical enough.. And opened too far from the car (for my tastes anyway)

So after a fair bit of fettling and alterations.. My door now have a more solid feel when vertical.. I replaced the gas strut with a 28mm diameter one.. And longer so doors open more vertically..

So some comparison photos..

Now I know some will be thinking 'I can't see much difference'.. Trust me you will when my car is parked next to a car with standard NAS Sport hinges

My doors now fit to the hinge with 6 bolts instead of 3 as supplied

Plus I've added a little clamp to pin door when up and virtually eliminate wobble..

Another thing I could never quite figure out is why MG decided to 1) mount the bumper on a wide box section that blocks 50% of the direct air flow to the rad.. And 2) why the opening in the bumper isn't directly in air flow to the rad behind..

So decided to address both issues in one go..

Larger opening for more air flow,. And ditched the box section that carries the rad..

Instead I'm fabricating a 3mm aluminium duct.. To channel 100% of the air that enters the front into the aircon and coolant rads..

This duct is also strong enough to carry the bumper (I can stand on the duct)

One half installed (will get sprayed black)

Both sides will be sealed off..

Yes there will be mesh fitted..

There is a little bit of steel frame work underneath.. I can stand on this duct.. So pretty strong

Progress

Steel frame under the aluminium sheet carries the bumper.. The red part is so strong I can stand on it..
