Is this fixable? was created by bensewell

Had a spot of bother on the motorway on Saturday. Some arse decided to drift into the middle lane where i was going 40mph in 5th gear low revs trying not to spin anything. So i braked to not hit the other car and ended up doing a bit of a weave had a choice of hitting someone in the left lane with kids or trying to stop. I tried to stop by gearing down and pumping the brake but ended up spinning about a bit more and hit the central reservation at about 10mph. The car was still driveable but i got out quick and abandoned and got to the hard shoulder barrier.

Pics below. It looks OK starts and drives OK. With my very limited knowledge it looks like it needs a bonnet, wing, front panel, head light and probably the front black bar that the bumper screws onto.

Insured for £1500 so i think it will get wrote off but i can probably buy it back for cheap and make it nice again with a bit of patience.

Never use gears to slow on a RWD car in these conditions as it is virtually the same as putting the handbrake on.

Bad luck on the accident mate. Anything is fixable, what you have to decide is what sort of budget you are prepared to throw at it.

Will it need a new subframe or suspension components?

Insurance wise it is most certainly a write off, but I couldn't let DeepBlue go for that sort of damage and would fix her. But I am sad and she is my baby. ;)

Wings are bolt on and second hand will be around £50, bonnet should be £50 - £100, bumper should be around £100 - £150 and headlight £50 - £100. If you are lucky you could get them all in the right colour on e-bay.

Well whats done is done. I think it will deffo be a write off. So thinking of if i get a decent settlement getting another TF / MGF and maybe if i can keep this one or buy back for very cheap and strip it for parts on fleabay or keep a few for spares... The car was in mega condition prior to the accident with massive engine work so drove like magic :)

If it really was as low as 10 mph when you hit the barrier then its probably all cosmetic, looks like it was a bit of a glancing blow too.
Your crumple zone has done its job.

Second hand bits and pieces or get to a scrap yard and see if you can source the parts there, it will be lots cheaper, you might end up with a bit of a patchwork car but bonnet, wing and bumper re spray shouldn't be too much.

Unlucky! :(

Good luck with either a fix or a new model. Glad to hear you want to stick with an F/TF! :broon:

Hard lines and welcome at the same time. :)

Clive (CJJ) has done a grand job of showing that the car can be rectified with a bit of hard work and insurance money. Our 'how to' guides cover many jobs that need doing but we're always looking for more. Feel free to post up your pics on the re-build as it occurs.

It looked like it was a tidy little motor prior to the bump, which could have been a lot worse. I also had a slam in the snow on Saturday night. So, you're not the only one. But mine was nowhere near as bad as yours and more importantly, it was in the wifes' car. :P

If it were me I'd go with the 'getting a TF' option. They're peanuts in some cases and your insurance money should cover it. You could then sell or break your F, keep it for spares or whatever you like.

Nice to have you onboard. Shame that you had to crash to get here. :)

Your insurance company may not let you buy it back :nonod: Kimshros (on this forum) had her 2004 TF written off by the insurance company after a hail storm in Zurich had damaged every metal panel (the hail stones were golf ball size) the insured value was £3000 and they wrote it off as the panel cost was £2300 plus labour to fit. she had people queueing up to buy the salvage!! but the insurance company (Diamond) said that i was not their company policy to allow "buy back" so it had to go to a better place :bust: She replaced it with a beautiful, low mileage, one owner, 2005 TF spark, with colour coded hardtop for £2700.
good luck
