I used a similar idea, I have some 1/2 inch clear tubing.

thank you I will try and find some of that tubing and see how it goes, tomorrow I will just be putting new coils on and having a quick scan at what I have accomplished up to now, I know I need a new thrust race bearing as this one is grinding when the clutch peddle let out, and I will be replacing the clutch. I will have to pay the mg guys to do do that for me, my health is not to good to tackle such a large job.

I got mine from a local aquarium supplies shop.
