Trophy cars
Hello. We are looking round for a MGTF, preferably a Spark. Please could anyone tell me if they have any experience buying from Trophy Cars and if so how did the purchase go? They look to have some amazing cars for sale even though they are a fair bit pricier than buying private. Thank you in advance for any replies.

I bought my TF from them in November. My experience was okay. Basically they let me choose which cars I wanted to take for test drives. The area around there is on a fast main road but there are some twisty bumpy roads just of the A1 that give you the opportunity to really check out the car. If you find one you like, at a price you are happy with then, go over the car with the fine tooth comb, make detailed notes of what you want to be done to the car, and make sure they agree with all your requirements. Give them your notes to make sure they understand what you expect. Look out for the little things such as trim finishers and overall appearance.
I found them to be most receptive and they did the work on my car although it took slightly longer than originally agreed. Buying from them gives a degree of peace of mind, particularly re head gaskets etc.
Mechanically I have not had a problem and have been pleased with my car and I believe they now offer a 12 month warranty.
Their prices might be higher than some other dealers but you get what you pay for. I dare say others might have had a different experience but I had no problems with them or the car.

They have a mixed reputation but I think the general advice is to go in with your eyes open.
There was another MGF/TF specialist in the same area with a poor reputation but they have closed down, don't get them mixed up with trophy cars, they were a different company.

One other thing, if you do buy from Trophy Cars make sure it has some petrol in it as there are not too many petrol stations in that area of the A1.

I bought mine from Trophy cars before they moved to there new premises. I am pretty pleased with my TF, although there were a few things I didnt pick up on at the time (like there being 4 Goodyear tyres with good tread, but I failed to notice that only 3 of them were Eagles).
They promised an mot with no advisories, but after I travelled quite a distance to pick the csr up the new mot had advisories. They did put that right though.
I would say that you must remember that they are a dealer, and so need to always keep that in mind, however they are not some here today, gone tomorrow outfit.
