I'm thinking I can only 'clean' or cover the inside of my red hood in case the colour leaks through to the outside?

Nah the hood is triple layer with a membrane in the middle. Nice wine red felt available,

Does the glue stand up to hot temperatures and the folding of the hood?

It's still up there, attached and looking good. :broon:
If I was doing it again I would run the felt under the webbing between the bars rather than over it.

I was thinking about that too David... I might go for the 'Teddy Brown' as it seems to match the walnut leather in my interior. I wonder if they do samples?

Thanks for the link to Minerva David, just received the same material in grey to lighten up the interior.. one question :- you mentioned you would have fitted under frame cross bars...does fitting over bars give a problem or just decorative preference ?

I just find that I get a few wrinkles where the webbing moves independently from the roof material. Not a biggie, but the felt would probably stay smoother if it were under the webbing.

edit:- Just re-read what you actually asked. The material has to go over the bars of the frame because they are already shrouded with material from the hood fabric itself, but you can go over or under the webbing.
Hope that makes sense.

Spraying matt black paint should be OK but if you apply black renovo to the inside it WILL leach through and your hood WILL appear to have black stitching!

Could you not cut the material to go up to the bars and leave them uncovered? So it kind of tucks under the edge of the bars?

The bars are already covered with a similar material that is part of the hood. Basically it's what attaches the hood fabric to the frame bars. So you can't really tuck under, I just used the bars as a useful place for the joins(overlaps) in the felt, but I suppose you could butt up the felt to the bars. In my case it didn't make much difference as the material already around the bars is a pretty good match for the black felt.

It's the belt type webbing between the bars that allows you the choice of over and under.

You can see the existing fabric covers on the bars here:-
