Lighting my console 12 years 2 months ago #35513

Over the Christmas break I mentioned that I wanted to add led's to my dimples.
Just here:

Well, these arrived yesterday:

So, armed with a 6mm drill bit I set to work and it now looks like this ... with lights off

And this ... with lights on

I'd been planning for ages to put something in place of the dimples as they looked a bit bare to me. The chrome holders look great and I'll try to get a better photograph in daylight.
As for the lights. It was getting dark and I couldn't be bothered to fiddle around anymore so as you can see, they are temporarily fed from the footwell to see what they look like.
They are way too bright to drive with, so I can either change for a less intense light or I could pull them out of the holders and let them float behind to give a glow through the open holder holes. Or I might even ditch the light idea as the holders look great on their own. The lights might then be used as ambient lighting behind the seats.

The only pain was that the gap behind the bar is too narrow to get the retaining nuts in (at least without some melting of plastic) so I had to resort to a dab of Araldite.

Oh and these are the holders if anyone is interested

The 3mm leds came from the same company.

Looks really great Rog. Good job. :broon: :broon: :broon:

I'd also be interested to know how you did that job?

Does it distract you at all?

Will there be any 'how to' pics once you've finished tweaking this mod Rog?

looks good

but but
can i make a sujestion :)

if you use 3mm leds and only power at 13v then you can use a 1k 1/8th watt resistor so the space taken up will be verry small

also got cable you culg use 24awg ptfe sleved and that will also help with space
if any one needs any bits i can get them at trade price

sorry for the late eply but itsbeen mad at work :)
mad about cars and bikes :)
if it aint broke dont fix it :)

ok yep a dimmer switch is possible basically a vairiable resistor i can get you one that will cope with the power and do a little circuit drawing to help install :)

That would be great. I assume that if I put lights elsewhere in the car I can add them to the circuit at a leter date? Let me know how much and I'll organise a cheque or by paypal or whatever is easiest for you.
Thanks
Rog

I'm not after lights myself, but I'd just like to make a general comment about how helpful everybody is on the T-Bar! Those with knowledge, advice or access to spares and upgrades are always coming forward to help the mere mortals among us. So I'd just like to send out a heartily felt thank you!

Would you be able to take power from the dial lights? They are on a dimmer already.
Granted in order for them to be on you'd have to have side lights on.

trouble is the one in the car is already loaded so dont know how much more it could take berfor it burns out ?
there is no wattage on it but it is done by transistors on the board iv looked at using the same one for a different job but it packed up after 2 days
