Claying
I've just tried "claying" the paintwork, mainly because I had some doing nothing. The idea is you sweep it over the paint without applying any pressure and it should lift contaminant off / out. At first it did not seem to do much UNTIL started on the rear wing behind the air vent. Then the smooth slide turned into rubbing over sandpaper! Several gently passes were needed to get it smooth. Both sides just the same. Would this indicate that the air flow is disturbed enough over the vent to drop crud onto the paint but not actually do "venty" type stuff?

Be careful with claying!
It works but it is easy to make a mess. It does clear the sandpaper feel and give a smooth finish to the paint but I have always needed to Machine polish after.
I used to do Detailing for people so just a word of warning mate.

I tried using clay bars to clean up the paint on the blue TF.
After a couple of weeks the lacquer started to bubble and totally ruined the bonnet which cost a lot to get repainted. I won't be using it again.

Brian - I did consider machine polishing but have to confess that that was a skill I simply did not have. Machine speed / application / scores of choice concerning what polish. Distinct possibility of making a total c*ck of it! Best leave alone. I do have a neighbour who does it professionally - perhaps worth a word.
R40MGF - Blimey, how did that happen?

Claying sometimes leaves marks that hand polishing afterwards doesn't remove.
Maybe your clay was very mild and it looks ok.
If it doesn't buff up very well your neighbour can polish it up. Then the paint really will shine.
