The 'If only' barn full of past cars...!
A 1958 MGA, bought for £200, sold 2 years later for £190 - 'wow, that was cheap motoring'. Recent addition to our Charente MG Club? An MGA at €30,000.
Most disliked and probably now so rare it's priceless? The last of the two-stroke Saab 96s - 1966, three cylinder, triple choke carb. Very occasionally ran like a 1800cc six. Usually ran like a 900cc dog.
Even the most mundane of my 35-plus past cars could make 'classic' status one day, but you have to remember that the £190 that I sold my MGA for was a two-thirds deposit on that four-year-old replacement Saab. Itself then sold on for a fully paid-for 1962 Mk1 Midget.
But, hang on to your F or TF because not only is it great in the meantime it WILL make classic status (last ever MG roadster...) one day, and because they're not usually the only daily driver they're not normally the deposit on the next one.
We have a magazine here called 'Youngtimers, covering mainly '80s and 90s stuff. It has just crept into the '00s and values an '02 TF at 9,000€! Extremely optimistic, but I could sell my ,02 TF for an easy 5,000€ tomorrow. The French at least recognise a 'classic' when they see one!
What's that black canvas thing behind the seats for?
