Re: Plasma Dials - How to fit. 11 years 5 months ago #79555

:omg: I've just finished fitting some of those today!!!!

I put the dimmer switch in the same place too! Spooky! :broon:

Just waiting for it to get dark so I can see them lit up :woohoo:

Only thing different I did was not take steering wheel off!!!

I have the heater control set to fit but wonder what I can do with oil temp and clock dials cos they look odd now.

Any ideas???

David I've got the illuminating needles now and they don't have pins in. the pins for the temp and petrol gauge have stayed attached to the original needles that I've removed from the cluster.

did this happen with yours? if so what have you done? did you cut the pins and clue them to the new needles?

gonna have another look at this this week :broon:

It did, Tracy. :pinch:

I carefully removed the pins from the old pointers and glued them into the new pointers.

Be careful, because the pins are very brittle. I broke one trying to pull it out of the old pointer.
I would either try cutting the pointer away from the pin or melting the pointer, rather than using force.

I had to buy another instrument pod to get another pin, :nonod:

The pins were also not a tight fit in the new smaller pointers so needed gluing anyway.

Here's another good idea that you could consider Andy.

Sorry for the thread revival, but it seemed the most apt place to ask my question - is there any logical reason that the oil gauge & time clock lights wouldn't work after fitting the plasma dash dials & heater panel? :-? (The plasma bits were already fitted when we bought the car).

There is a power supply to the clock & gauge.

Jan,
There's no reason for them not to illuminate from fitting the plasma dials per se. Mine are working fine.
It's probably going to be down to some damage caused in the fitting. A disconnected wire or a fuse.
Do the switches illuminate because I think they're on the same fuse.
Just thinking aloud, does the supply come via the standard dash lighting rheostat? Is that still wired up?

Thanks David :) Yep everything else illuminates fine, and the fuse is also fine.

What's a rheostat and where would I find that? :-?

Sorry. The dimmer switch.
If everything else lights up then it's got to be down to the live feed to those gauges, unless both bulbs have gone...

A bit late to the party but have been thinking about installing this kit, any chance you still have the photos to re-upload at some point? Many Thanks :)
