Thanks for your thoughts R40.
I have mayonnaise, coolant level dropping and noticeable exhaust condensation. I guess water is entering the combustion cycle.
If it's not HGF, then an engine crack somewhere.....
Your optimism is genuinely welcome.

If you’ve got tockley snot all over your dipstick, then I suggest you refrain from using it until you can get it fixed, preferably asap!

A one time regular contributor had as a post script:- “MG, the friendly mark”.
I have often wondered whether it should be paraphrased as.
“MG the mark for the ever optimistic”.
Some might say “MG the mark of the frequently let down”.
On here & over recent years the number of desperate calls for help have diminished & assistance with irritations are more to the fore.
Or am I trapped in the world of “MG the mark for the ever optimistic”.
Have a good Christmas all & although mince pies & Gluhwein are lovely, there is a deeper meaning.

Cobber, the carpet will go back now tha the interior is "dry" but the car is going nowhere until the bigger problem is sorted.

AP, indeed. I agree completely.
Happy Christmas.

Send Graham Underwood a private message, (its the way I contact him) asking about his Snorkel brace, I paid £25 plus postage , its a well made piece of kit.

Is this actually a snorkel brace, ie a metal surround for the snorkel to ensure all round even pressure when bolted front and rear . Or is this the better known brake servo brace which bolts along the front edge of the snorkel to reinforce the brake servo mounting ?

I can certainly vouch for the benefit of the brake brace. Removing all that bulkhead flexing certainly improves brake feel.

Happy New Year.

Well, here is the update.
Russell Walsh came exactly on time. Within 3o minutes, he had the head off and found the leak of coolant in #1 cyl.
Made further checks and put on the appropriate gasket.
Lovely bloke and happy to talk cars and answer all the questions I had about my TF.

Thanks to those on here who steered me towards mobile repair.

Been out for a drive and very happy with the work and price.
I'm back on the road.

Great, there you have an illustration of the specialist motor engineer & the generalist mechanic. All your specialist tools are restricted to your speciality, overheads are your tools & transport. The upshot is great value & potentially greater reliability.
Whilst I can do those jobs within my compass I’ll get on with it, when I can’t & providing I can still get in, out, drive safely, see where I’m going & where I’ve just come from, I’ll get a specialist in to do what has escaped my capacity.
To illustrate, I’m now off to take the drivers seat out , the webbing has failed & I was unceremoniously dumped on the floor (fresh one to be picked up tomorrow).
