I would like to hear from anyone that has bought a 4 to 1 manifold for a TF and has been able to actually measure the difference in power output it makes - rather than subjective impressions if you don't mind!? TT suggested it was not worth the money but perhaps others have found it worthwhile? I'd also be interested in the same for the 52mm throttle body swap - I have a 160 so not sure if that would be worth it too?

Hi.
I can confirm that a decent exhaust manifold and the 52mm throttle makes quite a difference ( to the early VVC anyway.)

I have a Piper exhaust manifold on the VVC F I was using and the mid range improvement was immediate but you should bear in mind that the early VVC engines had a not very good exhaust manifold to begin with, yours has the better one so I don't know what overall improvement a 4 2 1 would make.

I then fitted the 52mm throttle body, mostly because the stupid plastic one was sticking, but the top end was a lot snappier afterwards although I can't say there was any actual increase in power, it just felt better.

I should point out that it also has a decent exhaust box and a Pipercross intake system.

If you were to go further and have the head flowed then these additions will have a bigger effect.

Geoff.

A 160 already has a 52mm throttle body. :yesnod:

General thought is that the 4 to 1 manifold swap is the least effective way to spend your money on power improvements. Get a remap...

But is a 421 better than O/E?

Yes.

And mine is a 160.

Seeing as a 4-2-1 is £508 from Mike satur a head job would be on my list before a manifold and a remap is £250

For completeness sake, what sort of price did you pay for your SABRE head work?

I paid £500 this included 6 new valves as 6 were not true. The work was opening the inlet ports, exhaust ports ,oil ways and coolant ways reshaping the valve sets and valves and a high strength head gasket as used in racing

Were you pleased with the work how did the car feel.
I don't think that was a great deal of money compared with the price of manifold

But if you are doing both anyway do the remap last.
