MGTF Coolant issue 8 years 7 months ago #162492

Hi

I'm hoping someone can help me out with an issue I have with my TF ever since I have had it.

If I use the car and don't examine the coolant level it drops below where it should be normally. Resulting in me topping it back up.

If I run the car up to temp or return from a journey, leave the car ten minutes, unscrew the Header Cap, the level will remain normal and not drop at all.

Ive recently had the Head Gasket replaced, replaced the water pump and inlet manifold.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me please as its now driving me mad.

Cheers.

If you are losing coolant there must be a leak some where.
You say 10 mins. after a run, the level is ok, but check again when the engine is cold & I bet that the level has dropped. :yesnod:
So you need to check the usual suspects ie hoses, rad.,man. gasket, coolant pipes etc.

Re read your post & when you remove the cap after 10 mins. you will have released the pressure in the system.
If it remains at that level it is probably an air lock giving a false level.
Bleed at all 3 points with heater on max.

Thanks for this. Thats the conclusion that Ive come to, it has to be an air lock somewhere. Cheers I will give it a go.
