Hi all i have a 1998 mgf,non vvc, my question is should the coolant system be pressurised as when i took the cap of the over flow tank it hissed and the coolant bubbled
like it was under pressure, should this happen or is there a problem ?

If the engine is up to temp., then the cooling system will be pressurised.
Never take the cap of the expansion bottle when hot as you risk the coolant erupting & scolding your self.

check the coolant level in the expansion tank when cold, just above the middle seam, then see what the level has risen to when it is fully up to temprature (should only come up about 10 mm at the most. Release cap ONLY WHEN COMPLETELY COLD, there should be a slight hiss, thats all.

What colour is the coolant ??

I've recently had a cap fail and it wasnt pretty in the engine bay.

I flushed and bled the system (according to the approved manner), only I didnt use OAT antifreeze (please dont hate me). On the first go it was clear blue then after it had run for 60 miles it looked a little darker but the header tank looked blue from the side.

I checked this against two other cars less than 2 years old and the coolant looked identical.

The coolant system on these is a work of art and does take a bit of jiggery pokery.

Defo keep an eye on the coolant almost daily. Or you could invest in one of those warning systems you can fit yourself. (about 60 sheets on fleabay), I may be investing in that myself as I'm a little paranoid about it at the minute.

Some coolants are yellow, blue, red, orange, a pleasant neon yellow or in the case of my coolant before I've flushed the system ... a murky brown with bits of kseal floating around in it.

David didn't you do another mod on your expansion tank. I'm using tapatalk on my mobile and its a pain in the butt and difficult to copy links.
