Replacement cam sensor fitted. Nothing changes! :(

Luckily parts are easy to get - delivered to my door within 30 mins!

Am i right in thinking this could be an ECU fault?

Ahh ive found where it is. Slightly different place.

It it right that it makes no difference if it is plugged in or not?

That's correct; even if it's unplugged on the MPI engine it will still start and run and nothing will be recorded in the fault codes.

If you go back to the previous post where I attached the PDF for the MEMS III Motorola ECU and have a look at page 9 & 10 it explains it's function and what occurs if the CMP sensor is faulty.

I know you have changed the coolant temp sensor, but you still need to eliminate it and the related wires/connections, you need a device that can read the input from the sensor at the ECU then you know it's working OK, like the Torque App.

Keep digging and good luck.

Brian.

Just to confirm.

I have done this method of checking the fuel and spark aswell, and it is identical to the video!

I had a similar problem and was traced in the end by Russell to a fault between the CPS and the ECU as identified with the T4 textbook. replaced the ECU with a good second hand one and problem solved. been running like a dream ever since.

Still the same issue. New spark plugs, checked cambelt timing.

Havent got access to a obd reader atm, but should have in a few days.

Im all out of ideas :(

Right - engine temperature acvcording to the OBD is 18C. All seems ok :(

New MAP sensor installed, along with throttle position sensor, and steppermotor.

New throttle body fitted.

Really am out of ideas :( Please keep the ideas coming

If the car has stood overnight (or more as yours has) the OBD reading for the coolant should be the same as the general environment.

Did the reader show up any OBD codes?

Nope nothing :( This is the same with both ECUs.

I'd say its been near about 18c at some point today.

Thanks for your reply :)

May not be related but you could also try a reset of the throttle position sensor;

Switch the ignition on but don't start the engine.
Press the throttle down fully and release 5 times
Wait 10-15 seconds and switch off the ignition.
Next time you switch on the ECU will have been reset to the max-min values of the TPS.

Not quite the correct method -

Perform this on a cold engine.
Firmly press the gas peddle to the floor and release 5 times in 30 seconds.
You will hear the TPS resetting.
When it stops start the engine.

You can do this from the engine bay as well by moving the cam on the throttle body as it would move if fully pressing the peddle.

Sorry I didn't read this properly before, I was on holiday with limited net access.

Reading through the thread it looks like a fuelling problem to me.

The pump works well.
The engine runs with the pump disconnected until the fuel runs out in the system.

I assume there is plenty of fuel in the car, if in doubt I'd chuck in 20 litres. I don't know about the MGF but with the ZS it will run with the tank very very low BUT if you run out you'll need at least 20 litres to get it restarted.

Then I think I'd be checking all the fuel lines are clear and the fuel filter is clean and the correct way around. Even if it is new I'd consider replacing it, it wouldn't be the first faulty filter.

Then have a look at the injectors, it is possible to do a flow test but as I've never done one I'd do some web research.

Another quick check is the emergency fuel stop, IIRC it is on the N/S of the engine bay.
