Busy day today. New top arm to hub ball joint fitted, new pad / caliper carrier bracket fitted, new mintex pads all round. Then two of the wheel nuts decided to round off so ordered some solids. Happy days 😁

Fitted new water pump and timing belt, and decided whilst I'd got the cooling system drained I might as well drop the front subframe and give it some tlc before the winter.
Also got poly bushes for the wishbones, and the front left mount needs replacing. Rather than support the car and drop the subframe, I dropped the front until the subframe was resting on some timber blocks, unbolted and then gently raised the car by jacking on the front chassis member just infront of the subframe, blocking under the sills at the jacking points until the car was high enough to slide the subframe out.

Car supported on axle stands under the sill jacking points, with additional support provided by ramps under the sill with timber spreaders.

Pumped my suspension up yesterday. Driving much better now :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:

Then fitted some Golf GTI door pockets that I've had for ages today.

SWMBO has somewhere to keep her knitting now!

More or less. I had to trim a little off the front to accommodate the curve of the door panel. There are a couple of lugs at the bottom that need to be removed as well but all easy enough. The pockets themselves are slightly curved on the back edge so it would be better to trim that as well but you may lose the centre fixings then.

I just screwed through the back of the door panel to attach them. I stuck a piece of perforated rubber in the bottom to reduce rattles.

Pretty pleased with them though - they only cost £15.99 for the pair so a cheap solution really.

I hadn't noticed until I took the photo that the curve on the front of the pocket follows the curve on the handle and the leading edge follows the line of the front of the door panel. Almost look as though they should have been there all along!

Took her in for an MOT, she failed the last one on rear brakes and emissions. I sorted the brakes but it took me 2 months to get around to it (holidays/weather/work/life etc.).

Last time the CO was at .5 on the fast idle, this time it was 3.5%
As I have literally driven 10 miles from the test station and 10 miles back I was rather surprised.

Pscan suggests a faulty lambda probe.

Today I got one from ECP for £19!
Unfortunately it came with a later plug so I spent tonight making up a patch lead, easier than changing the plug and changing it back again when I go MEMS3.

James, just out of interest, how did Pscan point you in the direction of a faulty lambda probe? Did it show an error code or was it one of the readings that looked wrong? If so which?

Thanks
