What do you consider to be the ideal emergency kit for your boot - in terms of tools, spares etc?

Its irrelevant really, as (from personal experience) whatever you pack tools/parts etc will always guarantee something unrelated failing. For example, yesterday for the run I packed some basic tools, coolant, oil, etc, and my wiper linkage collapsed half way round. Thank god for RainX.

A elastic hook thing to keep your top up while you inspect in the bay. Socket set + spanners. A gallon of water, some tie wraps. Assortment of spanners. Some hosepipe clips things. And most of all.

A breakdown services card.

I have a book called "vehicle dependant expedition guide" written for land rover owners specifically, but anyone who is planning an overland trip, good reading. On the subject of vehicle spares, it starts with the basics, plugs, points, leads, filters, full gasket set, clutch, full change of fluids (engine oil, diff oil, gearbox oil, brake fluid, coolant) electrical ancillaries, spare alternator, starter, battery, spare rims and tyres, plus tubes and bead breaker, goes on to talk about spare drive shafts, uj's, halfshafts, springs, shockers, bush's, wheel bearings, belts, timing chain, carb rebuild kit, bulbs, lamps etc, then goes on to specialist expedition stuff that i wont go into. The last line of the list talks about forgetting to take the Landy you have just gathered all the above kit for and taking a Bedford TK 4x4 instead!!!

I'm the same, I have recovery only breakdown (just want the thing bought home for me to fix it).

As the Leyland is only for very occasional use I won't be going anywhere important in it.

Regards,
Andy
