I think it is worth mentioning that touching or getting grease etc on the glass part will damage/shorten the life of the lamp as it will cause a hot spot. Always handle by the metal part and be careful not to touch the glass against anything. Keep the protective paper cover on as long as possible if fitted.

Excellent. Just the sort of useful how to we are looking for.

Replacing a headlight bulb on the F is similar. The only difference is that the covers are made of plastic rather than rubber, and rotate a few degrees to lock in place.

My Mk2 F uses H1 bulbs for the main and dipped beam. :yesnod:

I'm wearing gloves in the pics. But, I've mentioned it on the bulb pic now.

The Mk1 MGF also uses H1 (55w) bulbs for dip and main beam

How to change an MGTF Headlight - Headlamp bulb. 10 years 7 months ago #128339

G'day fellas.
I was speaking on Shout Box last night but now can't find the thread re replacement HB3A high beam globes for my 2004 MGTF 160.
Can someone please point me to the best bulbs and supplier (or Ebay) re these. I've searched and searched but can't identify a suitable "upgrade" bulb from the standard high beam bulb which is less than brilliant. I want to stay with normal upgraded bulbs vs HID.
They need to be willing to post to Australia.
Thanks for any guidance and best wishes.

Ken,

These guys are pretty good http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/HB3A-9005XS-headlight-bulbs/?bulb_search=car&end=front and they will ship to Oz. However i am sure you can find Osram bulbs locally.

Nice how-to LP :broon:

Worth pointing out that if you do touch the glass bit then wipe it clean with spirit based solvent.
My Halfords bulb set for French abroady- type stuff includes some solvent wipes.
It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..
