Door Speakers removal and upgrade. 12 years 1 week ago #46960

Are your old speakers shot like mine were

so follow the guide on here for removing the door card

picture of how shot they were

So unscrew the speaker holders from door and pull forwards enough to get to the wires behind and pull them off..
now you have to get the old speaker out.. I have seen them fitted slightly different than mine so heres a guide if yours are the same as mine.
first find the three bent lugs that go into the holder

now you need to get a flat screw driver that will fit in the slot so you can bend them straight

o.k now you have all three tabs bent straight you are almost ready to pry the speakers out but because they are glued in you will need a hairbdryer that gets nice and hot... (this in itself most would find funny if the saw my hair lol)

so heat around the edge

get a flat head screwdriver and use as lever after heating for a while

and it should start coming away easy if you get it hot enough.

the speakers that fit the mark 1 F are 6. 1/2 in I went for the FLI Fi6 as I thought they had a good all round sound with enough bass.

so now put your new speaker into the holder.. you could re-glue them in with a hot glue gun or screw them into position (note make sure the speaker is in the right position to get to the connectors behind) I screwed mine because i couldnt find my glue gun.. might glue them when it reappears.
if screwing them pre drill the holes into casing with a smaller drill than the screw your using..

heres my speaker fitted.. now just put everything back together

TF and mk 2 F s have the speaker pop rivited into the holder so drill them out and the speaker will fall out
put the new speaker in the holder and mark the 3 or 4 holes to srew the new speaker into place dill and assemble
mad about cars and bikes :)
if it aint broke dont fix it :)

Nice one Jac. I made a new section named 'ICE' (In Car Entertainment) and added your guide to it.

Just in case anyone finds these useful I took these of my TF speakers (1.6)

i've got a few more but I think all the useful info is in these. I dont know if the 1.8 is much different apert from the addition of tweeters and T bat speakers.

My how too on this was done by Ray, unfortunately I did not take any photos I was to busy dusting what Ray told me was cigarette ash off Madam, only to find it was his drilling , naughty boy ..
His speaker covers do look fabulous though :broon:
