I think in your case the main clubs would probably be of no advantage-but join a local car club (were members of our local Staffordshire Moorlands MG Club)it costs £10 /year and we get the social side of a car club -we gained good friends with a common interest and no regimentation.We go out with our club members to car shows or just on planned weekend run outs to local places of interest.

I had a similar experience with Lancaster.
Very cheap first year, but on renewal, the price trebled for no apparent reason.
They could not explain why it had increased so much.
Obviously renewed elsewhere.
