Greetings all and happy new year.
Not been around much recently due to some probs of the family variety, as in granddaughter has been living with us since November due to her mum chucking her out for unfounded reasons. Families: can't live with them, against the law to shoot them and bury them in a shallow grave..... Ah well.
Anyway, I digress as usual. Signed. As Friends of Donington Park we get this crap all the time from newcomers. 'Get off my land, racetrack. Nobody said race cars would be noisy.'
Many years ago, when I worked at Drax Power Station, largest in Western Europe, there was a patch of land at the South end of the site, in the shadow of the 6 South cooling towers. It saw sunlight one month a year. Around the Solstice in June.
Ya want 10% of the UK power in one place, you get the big plant.
Amazingly, a builder bought it and built starter homes on the site. We had a sweepstake to see when the first complaint would be made that there was a monster power plant next door. And that their view was of concrete cooling towers. Which had been there since 1972. This was in in 1991. I won it with a punt at 48 hrs......
It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..
