Nipped up to the shed and grabbed this:
What to do with it? Hmm..... an idea!
ooh I have a dremmel-like thingymebob:
Bzzzzzzz.......
More Bzzzz:
Ooh, looks what it's like behind the air bag blank!
Best to pop those nuts off.. ooh it's on the bench!
Let's bend it a bit:
Hmmm.. that almost fits it:
Not bad...
Let's mark round my spare blank for the fun of it!
Oh no the dremmel thingymebob got at it!!
Better smooth it then spray the inside black (dunno why just better!):
I'll file those pesky side bits off too I think:
Ooh I know - let me control the dremmel thingymebob for a mo:
Ah the satin black is dry at last!
Let's pop some carpet (left over from rear bulkhead when I changed carpet to cream!) on that annoying cross member:
Mmm that's better:
It fits! Woohoo:
Dont like that plastic - better cover it with some more of that carpet:
It certainly looks better than plastic!
Voila! Finished at last!
It would be better without the huge lump in the middle but there's still a decent bit of space for sunnies, phone etc in there!

Nice neat modification ...I've just done this &but attacked the job from the "other side " and I removed the back , not front of Rover Cubby Box, with a bit of messing and lots of accurate cutting achieved ...this ( in the photograph )
I found it particularly useful to prepare with a paper mache skin over the outside to use as a dummy model first ...measure twice cut onceπ .
Back is flat and covered with black felt on thin alloy plate and included the slightly reduced rubber mat.
Not quite finished in the photograph ,as I need to insert a couple of screws into the side Edge to fix securely.& will add an illumination lamp on door opener switch.
Well pleased with the idea and happy with the project thanks everyone for the idea & courage to dismantle the dash.

Hi Fil6909
Thats how I did my MGTF this time ( did my old MGF the Adam Elphick method previously) -think it goes well .
Will be interested to see what extras you do

Fixed a pr. small lamps/ bulbs in the ' roof' of the cubby to come on with door opening / interior lights .. which sadly have since stopped .. the multifunctional ( red) box has malfunctioned I think & a variety of stuff doesn't work now π..anyway, the devils glove box looks ( looked!) cool in the dark.
