Hello all, welcome to the seventh T-Bar Shoutbox quiz. There'll be a few driver safety tips included in this weeks questions
because of all the crashes going on in this freezing cold weather. So, if you're all ready to 'rock n roll' here's the first
question.
1. What strength of coolant mix gives the lowest temperature protection?
Answer - Half anti-freeze mixed with half distilled water. A 50/50 mix using proper anti-freeze and distilled water allows a
wide temperature range to be tolerated by the engine coolant, such as minus -37°C to 129 °C. In case you didn't go to
school, the boiling point of water is 100c.
2. Until around 1800, what was the second biggest killer of women in Great Britian?
Answer - 'Cooking'. Often, the dresses of women would catch fire whilst cooking. The biggest killer was of course,
childbirth and the third biggest was talking crap. Probably.
Ladies, forgive me. I am a sinner who is beyond redemption.
3. For those of you that can.. When you lift 75kg upwards one metre in one second, it is the equivalent of what?
Answer - One horsepower. So, now we know after all this time.
4. What 'weekly checks' should we all be doing on our vehicles. Please note, I said 'vehicles' and not the phonetically
similar word for the smutty crew.
Anyway, list as many as you can please?
Answer - I'll accept any of these - Lights, Wipers and squirters, Tyre condition, Tyre pressure, Oil Level, Coolant Level,
Brake Fluid, Clutch Fluid. If you have an MG you can check your coolant every 3 minutes in case of HGF.
If you want a more in depth look at the weekly checks and servicing tips then have a look at Clives' guide later. Here's the
link which I will put up in the questions page after the quiz has ended.

place and are often used on roof racks.

food bars or chocolate, water bottles, mobile phone, jumper cables, flares or snaplights, Tyre foam, Warning triangle, and a
first aid kit.
I use one of these mini usb torches that charges off the satnav usb / cigar lighter converter socket. Always handy, and they
last a couple of hours per charge too.

feel welcome on their great forum.
Here's the question, What other 2 names (careful now please) are these great little roadsters often known as?

14. Handy to know for driving in the snow or for cars not fitted with ABS. What is 'Cadence braking'?
Answer - Cadence braking is the process of rhythmically applying and releasing the brakes in order to get a compromise
between steering and braking performance. In other words 'pumping the brake pedal' to prevent skidding and a loss of
control.
15. The Japanese word for HOORAH is?
Answer - 'Banzai!' Which, as we all know, is a small type of japanese tree.
Yes, it was a joke, a small type of Japanese tree is a 'Bonsai'. The purposes of 'bonsai' are primarily contemplation for
the viewer and the pleasant exercise of effort and ingenuity for the grower, developer. Just in case it had slipped your
mind.
16. If you're alone in the car and you get stuck in the snow, ice or wet mud. What can sometimes get you moving again.
Answer - When pulling away in slippery conditions, selecting first gear is not always the best option. Lower gears provide
more torque at the wheels and this extra twisting force is more likely to cause wheel-spin. Selecting the highest practical
gear reduces torque, and gives you the best chance of success. Try pulling away in second gear with light acceleration for
best results. Sometimes letting your tyres down a bit also helps in mud or snow.
17. Name the car in this anagram 'I put on fat'?
Answer - No it's not a 'Lada' (Larder). Get it? Brilliant.. hahaha
It was, in fact, a Fiat Punto'.
