**Shoutbox Quiz 7** 12 years 2 months ago #39955

Hello all, welcome to the seventh T-Bar Shoutbox quiz. There'll be a few driver safety tips included in this weeks questions

because of all the crashes going on in this freezing cold weather. So, if you're all ready to 'rock n roll' here's the first

question. :)

1. What strength of coolant mix gives the lowest temperature protection?

Answer - Half anti-freeze mixed with half distilled water. A 50/50 mix using proper anti-freeze and distilled water allows a

school, the boiling point of water is 100c.

2. Until around 1800, what was the second biggest killer of women in Great Britian?

Answer - 'Cooking'. Often, the dresses of women would catch fire whilst cooking. The biggest killer was of course,

childbirth and the third biggest was talking crap. Probably. :)

Ladies, forgive me. I am a sinner who is beyond redemption. ;)

3. For those of you that can.. When you lift 75kg upwards one metre in one second, it is the equivalent of what?

Answer - One horsepower. So, now we know after all this time. :)

4. What 'weekly checks' should we all be doing on our vehicles. Please note, I said 'vehicles' and not the phonetically

similar word for the smutty crew. :) Anyway, list as many as you can please?

Answer - I'll accept any of these - Lights, Wipers and squirters, Tyre condition, Tyre pressure, Oil Level, Coolant Level,

Brake Fluid, Clutch Fluid. If you have an MG you can check your coolant every 3 minutes in case of HGF. :)

If you want a more in depth look at the weekly checks and servicing tips then have a look at Clives' guide later. Here's the

link which I will put up in the questions page after the quiz has ended. Weekly vehicle check list.

5. Elvis Presley had a soft spot for 26 what?

Answers - Thankyou, thankyou very much... Yes, 26 Cadillacs! He owned them between 1954 and 1977. :)

6. What's a bungee (pronounced 'Bunjy') used for?

Answer - They are elasticated ropes, with hooks on the ends, that are traditionally used for securing a vehicles load in

place and are often used on roof racks.

7. Some music now.. Name the singer in the first ten seconds of this clip please?

Answer - Ozzy Osbourn. My son in laws uncle John (real name). :) Here's Ozzy's equally mad sister 'Jill' cooking us

Christmas dinner last year. You can see the resemblances.

8. Which group was Ozzy the lead singer of?

Answer - Black Sabbath. :)

9. If you had to pack a roadside emergency kit in your car. What would you put in it? You have 30 seconds to answer.. Go,

go, go...

Answer - 'Banzai!' Which, as we all know, is a small type of japanese tree. :)

Yes, it was a joke, a small type of Japanese tree is a 'Bonsai'. The purposes of 'bonsai' are primarily contemplation for

mind. :)

16. If you're alone in the car and you get stuck in the snow, ice or wet mud. What can sometimes get you moving again.

Have a laff at this later -

6. Most of our cars are convertibles. So you should know this answer. ;) Where does the term 'Cabriolet' originate from?

Answer - Cabriolet is a French word first used in the 18th century originally referring to a light horse-drawn carriage. A

Cabriolet would have two wheels and a folding fabric hood that could be pulled up to protect two occupants from the weather.

It would be pulled by a single horse. The name is thought to derive from cabriole (a French term for a dance-like high

kicking classical horse movement) because of the vehicle’s light, bouncing motion. :)

7. Interestingly before the automobile was invented Cabriolet’s were often used as taxis’ for hire and the word was was

often shortened to ‘Cab’ thus being the source of the phrase ‘taxi cab’ or ‘hackney cab’. Which British city is famous for

its' Hackney cabs' and why are they called that?

Answer - London. Also called 'Black cabs' or 'London taxis'. The first documented 'hackney coach' — the forerunner of the

'hackney carriage' operated in London in 1621. The name 'hackney' was once thought to be an anglicized derivative of French

haquenée — a horse of medium size recommended for lady riders; however, current opinion is that it is derived from the

village name Hackney, part of London.

So next time you give someone a lift in your MG you can rightfully charge them double after midnight. :)

He would have been proud of this though -

when the weather turns foul. Occasionally, it happens to MG's when we push the boundaries of common sense pendulum physics.

(I made that bit up, but it sounds really good and makes sense). :)

Answer - Drifting of course. :) Here's a movie, to watch later, which shows this great fun feature -
