I also had an annoying ticking/clicking on rough roads. I found that the top of the suspension turret was cracking away from the inner wing.


I cleaned up the area and you can see the cracks highlighted with orange lines. I got a plate welded over the area to reinforce it.



Looking at this picture, someone has tried welding yours in that area, but you can see a similar crack.

I think your right David, Took it for a spin this morn and the noise is still there.

Rocking the suspension with the boot open confirms the sound is deffo from aroung there and its not the hinge spring.

Any pics showing the finished job? and did you do it yourself or was it a garage job?

I'm rubbish at welding so it was a garage job. I'll try to get a photo.

You can't see much because it's all covered in black goo. But he welded the cracks, then fitted a plate across the inner wing with 2 slots for the turret buttresses. He then welded all around the plate too.

Another common annoying ticking sound can be a crack in the oil filler bracket..... thought my engine was due to blow up

Always worth a check
