It's good to see that Mike has a similar opinion on the Suplex 'coil in a can' as I do! :bat:

This does look a well engineered solution by someone who actually understands the problems. Costs are high but so is a Suplex kit and that is a design flawed system that will almost certainly fracture the rear top damper mounts.:bang:

Factor in that it is £850 plus VAT!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Suplex has had mixed reviews but there is a kit available from the Sydney MG centre which is apparently very good.

:welcome: to the t bar.

There is a suplex kit one eBay uk at £1100 plus postage at the moment.

I've read quite a few bad things about the kit so I wouldn't bother with it.

The more cost effective way is to swap over to tf subframes and mgfntfbitz over here do a kit so it may be worth dropping them an email and see what they could sort you out with.

Hello, my name is Pedro, im for portugal, and i own a mgf 1.8 88kw from 1996, i got this car about 2 years ago and i love it! It is a really nice car for some corners, perfect for a weekend ride. My only complaint with isthe suspension: every time i charge it, it only lasts for about 3 to 4 months before needing to be refilled. More recently, two of the spheres broke down, which means i have two options: either i find 4 new spheres and change them all ( because changing only two would leave the car very unballanced )or i buy a hydagas to coil suspension kit . As the spheres are no longer in production and it is hard to find them, i am more inclined to buy a suspension kit. Having searched the internet for suspension kits, i found the most common was the SUPLEX kit , but i cant find it in stock anywhere. So what i want to ask is which kit do you recommend me buying? and where can i find it in stock? ( i live in Portugal, EU). Of course the price is also an important factor.

Thank you for your time,

I had a long but unattributed conversation yesterday with someone much more experienced than me on this topic.

He's aware of the re-gassing option being offered in the UK. His problem with it is that and old sphere re-gassed is still an old sphere and it's completely unpredictable as to how long it will last.

He likes the Australian kit but thinks it's not suitable for UK roads because of all the salt we use in winter - the totally exposed alloy parts will corrode quickly (still an option I suppose for those summer only users).

He made the well know warning about using harder dampers on the F and was insistent that if you go down that route, you must reinforce the rear upper fixings first.

He was a supporter of Suplex but apparently the German owners have pulled the plug on the MGF kit! Too niche for them it seems. However, the ex-UK manager who was the lead on the kit development hopes to launch an improved version if the copyright issues can be sorted. It will have a medium in the canister to reduce the amplified clunking sounds and to keep the spring in place. He also was keen to say that to get the best out of Suplex you need to change suspension bushes and probably the knuckles which he acknowledged are too expensive for what they are.

It's another opinion of course and don't shoot the messenger but I thought it was worth sharing. I'm hanging in there with my original hydragas for the moment but would certainly look at son of Suplex if it happens.
