Hi. 2005 TF 55000 miles. The klonk started a month after I bought it. Its a worrying metallic sound on bumps and take up. I couldn't identify it so took it to one specialist twice and another specialist once for a diagnosis. I got a list of things to repair. I've done all of them. Klonk still there. One unsuccessful diagnosis cost £270. Before I replace the entire rear of the car piece by piece any advice on who might actually be able to find the klonk. Most of the things they said were possible causes did need replacing, but now the ride is taut the klonk is worse. This is what I've done:
Shocks
Upper linkages
Arb drop links and rubbers
New exhaust and rubber hangars
Polybushes for Torque tamer
And tightened the loose nuts and replaced missing ones

Please please help me with (a) someone who will actually succeed for less than £270 or (b) a cliff to drive it off.

I'm at the end of my wits and my cash

Have you checked the engine mounts? some times they can look ok until you lever the engine up from them

As above, engine mounts are worth checking.

Thanks! Is there a way I can check them before replacing them?
And which one is more likely to fail?

With the car up on a hoist ( I believe the Pomgolians call ‘em ramps or lifts), you try to lift the engine a little with a lever while you or a glamorous assistant watches the mounts to see if the metal and bonded rubber bits of the mounts seperate under the pressure applied by the lever.
You don’t need to swing on the lever like bloody Tarzan
If you don’t have the luxury of a hoist, you can jack the car up, but you MUST have the car securely supported on solid axle stands.
It’s more awkward than a hoist, but to quote Blackadder: “Do as needs must, when the Devil vomits 🤮 in your kettle”

On my TF it was the stake nut on the drive shaft that was loose and not staked in to the groove in the shaft . Every time I set off there was a clunck .

Really helpful advice from everyone. My glamorous assistant is my 21 year old son with a beard. In my case it's "keep calm, relax, focus on the problem and have a cup of tea" should I report back on my findings?

As I'm a glamorous 60 yr old bloke with a beard, your son sounds like a well qualified assistant, although perhaps a bit on the young side (at only 21 he'd still be shtting yella!)

Pulling the trigger is much more satisfying than a bloody cup of tea! The pulling of the trigger removes the problem forever, a cuppa only delays dealing with it!
I'll never understand the Pomgolian obsession with damned tea.

Yeh , it's a shame the gorilla that tightened my crank pulley bolt didn't show the guy who was employed to tighten the drive shaft nuts how to do it . The crank bolt was FFFFFing solid !!!

Belt and braces I've ordered engine mounts. Where does the stake nut go? Is it the one just inside the hub that you can see when the disc is off?
