quick tip for binnacle/instrument cluster 2 years 7 months ago #197055

Not sure if this will work as it's the first time i've attempted to attach a picture.
In the picture you can see my binnacle has cracked exactly where the white nylon mounting inserts into the binnacle and this introduces a spreading load into the binnacle as they open to accept the screw.
When I replaced the binnacle I took out these nylon mounts and replaced them with a speedclip which is also in the photo. I glued these to the back of the binnacle with contact adhesive, this allows the clip to self centre if you have not got it exactly lined up and means they stay in place when you remove the screws in future.
This changes what was a spreading load into a compression load that the binnacle can handle much easier, if your doing any work in this area it will only take a few minutes and may save an expensive binnacle.
