Would it not work if I simply relocate the bonnet release cable and leaver from the boot area to inside the car somewhere close to the drivers seat maybe. Can anyone see a problem with this.

Can't see any particular problem with this other than having to shorten the cable.

It's in the boot as a security feature. To protect against the disconnection of the battery to disable the alarm in the event of the hood being left down.
Having said that I have moved my bonnet release into a hidden position within the cabin. I have also fitted a remote electric bonnet release similar to the boot release I have had fitted for years.

Yes have done exactly the same as David. New cable plus secondary secret cable in cabin, and electic boot release.
