TF 160 Air Filter Intake Hose 5 years 4 months ago #188636

Hi. Just noticed the plastic intake hose is dropping to bits. Should I just replace it with the same part or is there a better alternative. I was never too happy wirh the way it seemed to just flop inside the engine bay. Any low cost ideas appreciated.

Gaffer tape - should last a while, I had the same problem with my 160 last summer, and a quick wrap of tape sorted out the job!

I did the shannon tube on my ZT a few years back and used some of this stuff.

A quick check on the Rimmer Bros. website and the original duct can be found at not too bad a price...

Or an aftermarket one that you will probably need to fit the plastic end pieces to....

Brilliant. Cheap as chips. But before I commit, would it do a better job if it was a bit longer, with the end positioned somewhere else?

If the inlet hose is piped to the near side air vent then you get the advantage of colder air.

I've no idea what the hose ID is sorry. It would seem to make sense to replace it with something a bit harder wearing, and longer to reach the near side air intake.

The shannon tube I replaced on the ZT was 70mm and it was rotton, the silicone from ebay looked like it will last a lot longer than the original fitting.
No idea what diameter of the pipes on the TF are.

If I get a chance I will measure the hose I have in the garage.

I'm sure this has been asked before, but anyway has anyone tried installing an air intake pipe to the front of the car, and what was the outcome?
Just thinking the extra concentrated air flow straight into the throttle body would help increase the engine efficiency, but would also upset the fuel to air mixture; which would probably increase the fuel consumption dramatically?
Maybe not such a good idea then?

I'm thinking of some kind of rectangular rigid duct similar to the stuff used in air conditioning installations in buildings, perhaps with a funnel of some kind to scoop the air in at the front, or is that a bit too much of an Heath Robinson job who ever he was?

I know there is a aero dynamic fairing available for the F/TF front, but this increases the flow of air under the car therefore helping to keep the engine bay cooler.
