Fibre Glass Wings 8 years 10 months ago #159188

Another MG fan has been in talks with a company to make fibre glass front wings..

These will be £200 a pair.. but only if we can secure a guaranteed 10 to buy them..

We have 3/4 people so far who have said yes..

Anyone else interested?

Personally no, but if they are also up for producing a number of binnacle surrounds then yes.

Hi, I have reservations regarding fibreglass wings. By their nature they are thicker than metal which leads to panel fit problems. Another tricky thing is fixing to the car. They would have to have the correct brackets bonded in to the wing.
Painting fibreglass often leads to a lighter shade so matching is difficult.
Accident damage needs to be looked at, a dent can be repaired and the wing saved but a sizable knock to fibreglass can completely destroy the wing. On the face of it fibreglass is easy to patch up but results can be variable.
If the lack of rust outweighs these considerations then they may be a good idea.

Hi diesel didn't intend to entirely dismiss the wings. :nonod:
I have a great respect for the material having in my youth owned minis with glass fronts and a lotus elan and two davrians which have no chassis except for the fibreglass monoque .
It just has limitations and idiosyncrasies.

I totally agree..

A few had expressed interest.. So thought id share on here..

I personally want to bond the wings to my custom bumper.. I was tempted to go full clamshell front end but decided against it...

As with almost anything in life.. there will always be for & against..
