As the song goes - "Making good use of the the things that you find"...I found a bag of these at the bottom of a rainbow today:

And seeing as I had a few rusty bolts holding the car together, I thought they might look better in here instead:

Is it :yesnod: or :nonod: ???

Good job.

I did the same as the surface rust offended mine eye verily. A strange force-field effect made an assortment beam into my pockets as I strolled through the mechanical workshop at work......
I could have just asked but the 'naughty boy' feeling is difficult to resist.

I ended up priming and spraying them satin black as I preferred the look. At least the buggers won't rust this time!

Personal taste.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

It's one of the more pleasant jobs to do :broon:

I just went for the black look to tie in with the body colour/black under bonnet vibe.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

If you add some nice pics to this thread it'll make the bling mods section. Great idea. :broon:

The washers are larger than the ones that the OEM bolts come with.
I'd sooner go up in size for function rather than down in size for looks.
According to Rob Bell (Technical Guru over on the F-Reg) the ones I have replaced are not structural, and as our very own DD says - the sheet is quite thin around that area so larger washers are better suited.
I did have concerns over using Zinc plated as I had been told that they can corrode, but having read up on engine builds and being reassured that the originals were very probably Zinc plated as well i decided to give them a go. If they do start to corrode, I can always change back to OEM.

The spare wheel cover came as part of a set of 4 I got for a song on eBay - you can see it's part of a set as per the wheel marking graphic.
I simply split the set between other T-Bar friends.

Functional? - Possibly, it gives a nice handle to lift the wheel out with, but it's more to tidy the area up really.

I did take one out one of the Posi-Drive screws that hold the bumper on, but not sure on the size, so will be on with them once I find out what size they are - anyone???

Edit: I also have my eye on some nice black fasteners instead if chrome isn't your thing ;)

We all know Rob. Or at least know of Robs' interesting endeavours.

Thanks for sharing this simple idea Rich. I know it's been done before and by many. We just need some nice pics of it having been done and a glistening car like yours makes it look just that little bit better. :broon:
