Cheers PQ I had sort of worked that out as if I stop just under 70 the rise is negligible, its when we go over she gets very thirsty, so normal driving speed reduced to balance it out :pinch:

Fuel consumption does tend to rise over a certain speed. It could be that now that your car feels planted at high speed you are driving faster and using more gas.

There's a story that back in the 60s when Ford were trying to beat Ferrari at Le Mans the original Ford GT did not have spoilers and Ford spent a fortune designing one to cure stability problems at high speed. Ferrari mean time had no such problems. Their 275 LM model had a small lip at back. when asked about this Ferrari said it was put there to stop spilt fuel falling onto the exhaust pipes during refueling stops
Spoiler to help aerodynamics

Lip to stop fuel igniting on exhaust

Invalid or non-existent item ID.

On the whole boot thing staying up... I plan to fit Astra Mk3 gas struts to my boot lid

Any reason for the Astra mk3 specifically?
Quick ebay shows these for £22ish with postage but up to £51 from some suppliers..

no question is a silly question!!

OK, maybe i should rephrase... What led you to believe the Astra Mk3 struts will work and out of all the cars in all the world, was there any other reason over and above the assumption they fit? lol

It's Allan we are talking about here, and you know what he is like for perfection, his ODC on cars matches mine in the house and tidyness

Someone on dot org said they had used Astra Mk3

I HAVE NOT TRIED THEM YET.. so please dont take my word for it

I plan to chop a bootlid up to be able to measure the gap there is.. and then go from there.. but its not high on priority list

No idea why that person selected Astra Mk3.. but will buy a pair at some point and have a play
