Brakes on F, advice wanted 11 years 10 months ago #54650

Hi guys,
Just had fun replacing fronts discs and pads due to uneven pad and disc wear.Plusgas and a weighty mallet helped enormously, no skinned knuckles either.
Standard Girling calipers, stripped, cleaned, painted and regreased etc.
Think the uneven wear probably caused by old grease in the sliders and slightly tarnished piston.
Seem to work ok now.
However - there were no shims between pads and caliper, never had any trouble with the braking, new pads did not come with shims.
Should I worry and get hold of shims?
Pete

Shims aren't necessary and some even advise against fitting. Copper grease should do the job.

The shims used to be called "anti rattle shims", so I guess no rattles = no need.

Thanks Tui, what I hoped to hear. Like the photos from Devon, looks like great fun was had by one and all. Now front brakes are done I just need to check the rears and then flush cooling system out, fill with correct coolant and then fingers crossed MoT. Pete
