REPLACEMENT SILLS FOR THE MGF 12 years 1 month ago #40328

British Motor Heritage have started reproducing the Left hand and Right hand sills for the MGF, which have been out of production for some while. You will recall that i posted a tread previously saying that British Motor Heritage had rescued all of the tooling for the MGR "F" & "TF" from Stadco when they decided to scrap ( melt down) all of the original tools following the decision by the Chinese to produce new tooling in China to make the bodies for the LE500 & the following TFs. ( i beleive that the first few production cars were from the british tools~ but dont quote me)

The following extract is from the February 2012 issue of Motoring Classics:-

MGF sills… The world is cottoning on to what incredible value MGFs represent in the current market, which in turn is increasing the interest in replacement parts for these pretty mid-engined two-seaters. Under the circumstances, British Motor Heritage is delighted to announce the reintroduction of both left- (ALG460050) and right-hand (ALG460040) sill panels for the model, which have been unavailable for the past year or so. They are manufactured on the original tooling in the same zinc coated steel as the original panels and, like all such BMH products, finished in industry standard electrophoretic paint. They are available now from all the company’s MG specialists, as listed on the website bmh-ltd.com. The suggested retail price is the same as when the items were last available – £72.60 per sill, including VAT.

When I first heard that sills were available I got quite excited then I realised that the repair panel I need
isn't the sill but the panel aft of the sill. :nonod:
On the MGB this is called the "dog-leg".
It looks like a sill could be cut up to make the needed panels but it sure would be nice
to be able to get them off the shelf. :yesnod:

The bit you need is the bottom of the complete rear wing and they are about £300 to buy (if you can find one) i have the same problem on my F (see attached photo) and was going to get a local bodyshop to put a patch in.

As BMH also control the Steelcraft (MB) repair panels and i have contacts there, i will ask if they are planning to introduce such repair panels for the MGF, especially as this rusting of cills on the F is becoming much more common as the cars get older!

I agree with Rich that the "dog leg" panel would be a very good one. When I bought my car there were 4 others to choose from, two of which showed bubbling or holes in the dog leg (bottom of rear wing). I have since repaired the bottom rear wing on the passenger side of my F.

Yep, mine is exactly the same place on the passenger side :bang: i found that the rubber plug in the front of the cill (behind the liner) was missing and the cill was full of "crap" ~ the MoT tester knocked that lump of crusty metal out with his little testing hammer

I will get onto BMH and see what they say. :yesnod:
