In 1974 I spent a few weeks in Melbourne, Australia staying with a school friend of mine who had moved back out there.
His father worked for IBM, he took us in to work one day to play computer games, This was two dots moving up the screen to form a race track and a cross in the middle to represent a car, as a 10 year old I was amazed.
In the '50's my aunty worked for Ferranti on the first main frame that belonged to Lyons, owners of a chain of cafes back in the 50's and now Lyons cakes, they would use the machine to do accounts during the day and lend it to the Met Office at night.
Then in the late '80's my sister worked for Nuclear Power in the department responsible for programming the safety systems on the nuclear reactors, she married the boss so I can say my brother in law was in charge of atomic power station safety, he left and was in charge of IT going into terminal 5 at Heathrow..................
