Have you a noticed a desire to buy things all things that look shiny?
Didn't notice it before ?
Relax this is normal behaviour since buying your MGF / TF. :yesnod:

Fancy some new knobs but unsure what to do? :-?

Read on at your own risk seeing more bling may result in sporadic buy it now impulses and small lies needed to loved ones when parcels arrive at your door.

What you need...

A length of string and your new knobs.

Wrap the string around your old knob, loop a bit at the bottom and PULL. It should pop off easy enough.

Then get out your new shiny superior knob ( :woowoo: ) then push it on on by lining up a lug on the inside of the knob with the metal thing inside the heater controls. It feels a bit stiff when you push it on, this is usual knob behaviour  :bat:

Ooooh Look look one done 2 to go...

Continue in this fashion until all 3 are done.

Then admire your handy work and gloat / convert the people who have plastic knobs to give in to temptation and join us...

Takes around 3 mins to do this mod and the controls feel a bit stronger .

That's a great tip, I spent ages struggling to prise mine off when I changed to a mk2 interior. Now no innuendo intended, but nice knobs Ben, where they from?

I pursuaded another ebay-er to do me a cheap deal on them so got them near enough half price :vulture:

These are the best knobs i've had so far the other ones I had had a little screw you had to tighten with an allen key these are direct OEM fitting, just push em on

I've learned from the pliers technique and trying to wedge a knife under the knob. Both resulted in cosmetic damage on other cars i've had. :)

Timing on this is one day late...I changed my shiny knobs back to plastic ones yesterday after getting fed up of the poor fit of the shiny ones due to the grub screw idea being pants. Now why couldn't you post this a bit earlier??

Don't look at the cosmetic damage to my shiny heater rings from levering them with the screw driver on Saturday...

2 questions, is there a difference between MK2 and MK1 knobs, I have a 2001, but the knobs on ebay (cold sweat) are mainly for MK1 models. Where did you get your ali switch surround plate from Bensewell?
Regards

Chris

The mk1 and 2 have different length shafts(ooh err) so are not directly interchangeable.

Switch surround was £550 free with the car

Mike Satur does a non car option about twenty quid
